One has to consider all aspects of our Governments decisionmaking. and the influence of the people. our constituents. of families and friends who have watched this debate and who will continue to watch this debate who have been moved In a variety of ways depending on their experiences. their relationships. and their desires. Mr. Speaker. the common thread with all of us Is that we eschew violence. now and In the future. We all hope to resolve this crisis peacefully. I am as an elected Representative and a first generation Member. Most of our families were immigrants at one time or another and came to this country and made their contributions to the greatness of this country to its values. to the great system of our Government. Their contributions were made by hard work. by vision. by determination. by a commitment to a better life. And they sacrificed.
