And like it or not. we in the United States must bear some of the responsibility for what happens in that very small country. Mr. Speaker. the modest protections in this bill to help these refugees is the right thing to do. It maintains the high traditions and standards that have become a hallmark for U.S. immigration policy. Mr. Speaker. this bill is long overdue. and let me again thank my colleagues. the chairman of the committee. the gentleman from Texas and the gentleman from Connecticut for doing outstanding work. and I hope we can pass this and send it forward so that it can be enacted into law so we can settle a lot of problems that have happened over a number of years that need correcting at this time.
