Mr. President. I will cast my vote against the conference report on the Immigration Act of 1990. I have made this decision only after deep reflection. All of us in this Chamber are the descendants of immigrants. I know that immigrants have a very special place in the history of our country. America has prospered and thrived on the strength and diversity of the immigrants who have come to our shores in pursuit of the promise of freedom. The culture of our society is made up of the varied traditions and values of the many who have shared their native languages and customs. contributing to our unique American heritage. This bill encourages the continued sharing and prosperity for those thousands of individuals who dream daily of migrating to these shores.
