The Journals editorial board really longs for the good old plantation days where workers were subservient. hardworking. and feared the sting of the lash. That is what they like. They have "never seen" an illegal alien right in their own city where they commute to workfrom outside the city. most of them. So the Journal wants to return to those days with open borders immigration. That is not my vision of Americas future. I continue to sincerely believe that we must close the back door to illegal immigration. and if we do that. then we can open the front door wider to legal immigration. That was the view of Father Ted Hesburgh. the Chairman of our Select Commission on Immigration and Refugee Policy. So. we will close up the legal immigration shop for a while. and see where we go. I would also like to deal with illegal immigration controls. They mentioned that in the piece. I hope we do that.
