Mr. Chairman. this amendment would gut the bill and gut some of the new thinking parts out of the bill. Basically in this bill we want to allow employers to bring people who are needed into this country. Right now only 4 percent of all immigration is employersponsored. Companies must wait for years. even when the Department of Labor certifies there are no available American workers. That hurts our economy. That hurts every American. That would be knocked out of this bill. Second. we have countries throughout the world. primarily in Europe and Africa. countries like Ireland. Italy. Poland. and Nigeria who cannot get people into this country. even though there are many people of that ancestry here.
