Session #101 · 1989–91

Speech #1010216583

Chairman. I rise to oppose H.R. 4300 unless we are able to radically amend it today. The bottom line is simply this: Today the United States of America admits 530.000 people every year. new immigrants. into the United States. which is more than all the countries of the world combined presently admit into their borders. This bill before the House today would increase that number by over 300.000. I would suggest to the Members that it would take the whole figure up to as high as 900.000 new legal immigrants Into the United States every year. I think the fair question for us to ask is: Why? Why. with all the problems we have in this country. are we taking up a bill that is going to increase the number of people that come into the country every year by such a huge number?
