Session #101 · 1989–91

Speech #1010213469

Acadian culture and the Acadian people have been a unique part of Maines historical heritage. This bill will create a Maine Acadian Culture Preservation Commission. which will in turn establish a Maine Acadian Cultural Center. with the goal of preserving. perpetuating. and honoring Maines Acadian culture. The United States is. and always has been. a nation of immigrants. Each new citizen. each new culture. has broadened our perspective. and enriched our Nation. This legislation will help preserve part of immigrant tradition that has made Maine. and the United States. a place where all can feel welcome. By preserving Acadian culture. we in turn honor all cultures. and all those who have contributed to the development of our Nation. I therefore strongly urge my colleagues to support the Acadian Culture Preservation Act.
