Irish American Heritage Month celebrates a national recognition of the contributions made by Americans of Irish ancestry. The Irish have played a significant role in the United States rise to independence. By 1776 nearly 300.000 natives of Ireland had emigrated to the United States. A French major general. who witnessed the U.S. victory at Yorktown over the English. reported that Congress owed its existence to the fidelity of the Irish that fought there. The Declaration of Independence was signed by at least eight Irish Americans. The Irish have contributed to the advancement of our culture. Including education. art. science. business. industry. governmental service and athletics. The Irish that have emigrated to this country have embodied. promoted and perserved American Ideals. This resolution is an expression of sincere appreciation of Irish Americans commitment to the growth and development of the United States. This commemorative resolution will provide Members with an opportunity to recognize and honor the lasting contributions that have enriched many aspects of life in these United States.
