Wasatch County. rose to prominence and prestige as an elected public servant of the great State of Utah. As a U.S. Senator. he served with dignity and distinction. continually confounding the cynics with the balance of his convictions and the firmness of his Judgment. During his 12 years in the Senate. Watkins served as the chairman of the Joint Congressional Committee on Immigration and National Policy and was a member of the Judiciary. Interior and Insular Affairs and Public Works Committees. as well as the joint committees on Economic Report and on NavaJoHopi Indian Administration. Perhaps his most notable role was as chairman of the Select Committee on the Censure of Joseph McCarthy.
