Mr. President. I rise today to pay tribute to Michigans longestserving State representative as he celebrates his 70th birthday. Dominic Jacobettl grew up in Negaunee. MI. where his Italian Immigrant parents found work in the Upper Peninsula mines. When he began working in the mines himself. his mother advised him to Join the union because It was "for the people." Dom went on to become president of United Steelworkders Local 2867 and later USW Local 4950. Dom has worked tirelessly for the Upper Peninsula since his election to the Michigan House of Representatives in 1954. He has been chairman of the House Appropriations Committee since 1975.
