But if these same students are not proficient in English. the doors of our own country will be closed to them. English is the language of opportunity in America. Knowledge of English is a key to breaking the chains of the ghetto. Its the first step on the way to achieving the famed American dream. Many of our immigrants came to America in search of that dreamin search of a better life for them and for their children. Their children will not have a chance at that better life if they do not learn to speak English. We cant solve all the problems of the ghetto.
