Speech #1010177217

Mr. President. this is a simple amendment. It exempts nonrubber athleticI emphasize athleticfootwear from the bills quota system for footwear. At the moment in the United States we have no quotas on imported shoesleather shoes. nonleather shoes. rubber shoes. nonrubber shoeswe do not have quotas on imports of shoes. This bill puts in quotas for nonrubber shoes. My amendment would exempt from that athletic shoes: the Nikes. the Reeboks. the L.A. Gears. the AVIAs. The reason for that is twofold and one I admit very frankly and proudly is parochial. Both Nike and AVIA are headquartered in the State of Oregon.
