Session #101 · 1989–91

Speech #1010171296

For me. it has been very difficult. I am not a lawyer. Mr. President. But. as a private citizen and a Senator. I have always been vigilant about restrictions on the basic freedoms that make America unique in the world. That is because I am the son of immigrant parents whose families fled tyranny for the promise of freedom In America. The Constitution and Bill of Rights are not abstractions to me. I was raised to respect them. as sacred promises of freedom. promises compelling enough to convince my family to travel half way across the globe to live under their protections.
