I thank the gentleman for his comments. They are very well taken. We do not have enough agents in the Border Patrol. with the INS. to effectively patrol our border. I want to add. though. that the National Guard in California is being used very effectively. as it is in other States. But particularly along the Southwest border. the National Guard is supplementing the efforts of the Border Patrol very effectively. It is not only good in terms of our interdiction efforts for drugs. but we are also learning that it is also good military training for those members of the National Guard who participate in those activities. So I want to congratulate the National Guard for their efforts in helping the military. in helping the Border Patrol patrol our borders and make it more expensive to get those drugs into this country.
