Session #101 · 1989–91

Speech #1010143198

I believe we owe It to ourselves as a nation to stand up for human rights and to learn from the past. The facts of the Armenian genocide are well documented and clear. By order of the Ottoman Government. many thousands of Armenian citizens were ruthlessly killed in and around their eastern Anatolian villages. Hundreds of thousands more were forcibly deported to Syriamarched into the desert and abandoned without food. water. or shelter. prey to the elements and to the violence of hostile Turks. Kurds. and Arabs. This tragedy of history has left deep scars. and not just in the hearts and memories of its survivors.
