I rise today to call the attention of my colleagues and the American people to the accomplishments of a distinguished San Diegan. Max J. Schmidt is a remarkable individual who has dedicated himself to the betterment of his community and fellow San Diegans. His efforts have been Instrumental in the design and development of San Diego County. and his devotion to public service is truly commendable. Max was born on February 21. 1926. in Burglenfeld. Germany. Shortly after his birth. the Schmidt family emigrated to the United States and settled In Wisconsin. Max later obtained a degree in landscape architecture at the University of Wisconsin. Like many great Americans of our age.
