It is really hard to imagine that this Nation could in any way by any act or statement suggest that there could be viability in a partitioning of Jerusalem. particularly in light of the superior track record of the Israeli Government in providing access and accommodation to all of those. Moslem. Christian. and Jew. who regard the area as the holy place it truly is. Yet by objecting to settlement in East Jerusalem by Soviet Jewish refugees. the possibility of such an idea is aroused. I hope that the President is pursuing a broad objective. the purpose of which we may not know now that will result in peace in this troubled area. but a peace in which the territorial and strategic integrity of Israel will be effectively preserved.
