Leo Kuper of UCLA points out. the new Turkish Government instituted courtmartials against the young Turk dictators. including the ministers of war. interior. the Navy. and other members of the socalled Committee of Union and Progress. These are the people who perpetrated the genocide against the Armenians. These proceedings established beyond any doubt that the deportations and massacres against the Armenian people during the war were planned and premeditated. The aim of the policy was clearly. as the indictment said. the extermination of all Armenians in Ottoman Turkish territories. The evidence gathered and introduced at these trials included official telegrams that were sent by the central government to the provinces. and the accounts by eyewitnesses from varIous nationalities.
