I hope that my colleagues will join me in working to defeat any such proposal. There are places where I think we can. and should. reduce United States aid. but Israel is not among them. In fact. Israels needs are increasing. Israel is already beginning to receive what Is going to be a huge influx of immigrants from the Soviet Unionan influx the United States has been encouraging for more than a decade. Clearly. it is going to need financial assistance in resettling these immigrants. Moreover. the military threat to Israel appears to be on the rise. particularly with the acquisition of modern weapons by various Arab nations hostile to it. Again.
