I believe that he knows what he is doing. I believe that he is trying to do the right thing. not only for the Chinese students here in this country and others who might be sent back. but to try to effect freedom and opportunity and. hopefully. democracy in that part of the world. I am not going to say that the President has absolute control and authority in foreign policy or in immigration. Certainly we have a role. But I do believe very strongly that you have to have a leader. a President of whichever party. who can speak for this country and act for this country not only on the passions of the moment but for the long term.
