This bill will save them from that fate. It is imperative that visiting Chinese students. scholars. and their spouses be granted a waiver of the 2year foreign residency requirement. Passage of this legislation would allow the Chinese nationals to adjust their slatus to other than nonimmigrant categories or to that of immigrant legally admitted to the United States for permanent residence. In addition. passage of this bill would provide that employment visas be extended for those students seeking gainful employment for the duration of their extended stays. The Emergency Chinese Adjustment of Status Facilitation Act of 1989 is an urgent priority.
