Session #101 · 1989–91

Speech #1010104840

President Roosevelt issued a military order. pursuant to the Philippines Independence Act of 1934. calling members of the Philippines Commonwealth Army into the service of the U.S. Forces of the Far East under the command of Lt. Gen. Douglas MacArthur. H.R. 525 waives certain provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act to allow those Filipinos who fought honorably in an activeduty status in the U.S. military. air or naval forces during World War II to become naturalized U.S. citizens. I urge all my colleagues that share my belief that veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces should receive equal benefits for equal service to support H.R. 525 and send a clear message to our Filipino friends that the Philippine veterans contributions have not gone unnoticed.
