Mr. Speaker. today marks the 45th birthday of Galls Genis. a Soviet refusenik. Galls. along with her husband. Anatoly. and her three sons. Peter. Seva. and Steven. have been attempting to leave the Soviet Union for the past 14 years. Each of their requests to emigrate have been denied because of Anatolys access to state secrets. which allegedly resulted from work he did more than 16 years ago. The familys most recent refusal came in June of this year. In a further twist of fate. the Genis second oldest son. Seva. recently turned 18 and. Is now eligible to be drafted Into the Soviet military.
