Mrs. Genis. along with her husband Anatoly Lazarevich and their sons Peter. Seva. and Steven. are still waiting for their permission to emigrate from the Soviet Union. On this day. I offer Mrs. Genis my sincere congratulations on her birthday. and I ask the leaders of the Soviet Union one more time to show some mercy to her family and let them leave. The family applied for permits to emigrate to Israel in 1976. The authorities denied them on the grounds of "state secrets" to which Anatoly Lazarevich supposedly had access during his work at an engineering institute from 1970 to 1973. This charge was unfounded on its merits at that time. and now. more than 15 years later. it is simply absurd and offensive.
