Beirut was known as the Paris of the Mediterranean. The Government was a type of democracy where they had a form of elections. and in the 1960s and 1970s. Lebanon was called upon to house thousands of Palestinian refugees from the neighboring areas of the Middle East and. indeed. they did. because they were known as a democracy. and they felt that these people had to have somewhere to go. and so they housed the people. Soon the refugees became about a third of the population. Shortly thereafter in the 1970s various countries. one of which was called upon to come into the country to try to settle an internal dispute. but various countries and various cults became present in Lebanon and. unfortunately. in my judgment. this country is probably one of the most exploited countries in the world. Yes. it is also true that internally the country was undergoing problems as well.
