Session #101 · 1989–91

Speech #1010093768

Mr. President. I rise in strong support of the nomination of Gene McNary to be Commissioner of the Immigration and Naturalization Service. Mr. McNary has had a long record of public service of which he should be very proud. He has been a county prosecutor. a public defender. and then for 16 years he held the elective office of county executive for St. Louis County in Missouri. He successfully handled some of those tough. "no excuses allowed" local issues such as roads. schools. health services. and housing. He was reelected to his position more than once. and I believe that that demonstrates the approval his constituents had of the job he did.
