It is appropriate that Joe DiMagglo will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award this year because the Hall of Famer will turn 75 on Mr. Speaker. it seems like only yesterday Joe DiMagglo set a record that will be toughest to surpasshe hit safely In 56 consecutive games in 1941. During the year. a person could approach a stranger and ask: "Did he do it?" Even the ones who didnt speak English knew who he was: "DiMagglo" was one of the first 100 words immigrants heard on arrival. In 1969. when the AllStar Game was played here in Washington during major league baseballs centennial anniversary. Joe was voted baseballs greatest living player.
