Mexico is the No. 1 source of marijuana and heroin coming into this country and the transshipment point for a third of the cocaine. Presently. there is only one border patrol unit for every 22 miles of the Arizona/Mexico border. By concentrating additional Federal assets and personnel in high intensity drug areas like the southwest border and south Florida. we will see a positive effect on the rest of the country. President Bush has requested total funding of $7.9 billion for drug control in fiscal year 1990.
