Session #101 · 1989–91

Speech #1010071752

I introduced this legislation along with Congressman LEE HAMILTON on January 27. 1989. and have worked with the GermanAmericans in my district and across the country in an effort to obtain the necessary number of cosponsors in the House. In this time. I have been impressed by the dedication and enthusiasm these people have shown. Since the arrival of the first German immigrants in the United States on October 6. 1683. their number has grown to an estimated 52 million. GermanAmericans have contributed to the life and culture of the United States over the past three decades. These outstanding people have earned this very special day to pay tribute to their achievements.
