He was traveling on yet another mission to Africa to observe refugee camps on the EthiopiaSudan border. and lend his support to hunger relief efforts there. Typical of Mr. LELAND throughout his career. he wanted to observe firsthand the conditions in the camps. speak directly with the people suffering because of the political strife in the Sudan. and give hope. especially to the children there. MICKEY LELAND was the driving force behind the House of Representatives Select Committee on Hunger. which he helped organize 5 years ago.
