Session #101 · 1989–91

Speech #1010068515

Our own country has imposed sanctions against the Chinese Government for its actions. If the repression in China continues. I urge the President to explore stronger sanctions. One of the Presidents actions in the wake of the massacre was to extend the visas of Chinese students and scholars studying in the United States. I am proud to have cosponsored a bill that would take this a step furtherby granting all Chinese students and exchange visitors in the United States the right to apply for permanent residence. Those who were killed on June 4 in Tiananmen Square are true martyrs to the cause of freedom and democracy.
