Session #101 · 1989–91

Speech #1010066848

Chairman. I Join the distinguished chairman of the Ways and Means Committee in supporting H.R. 1594. This bill is an attempt to reward the policies of the Hungarian Government with respect to emigration laws and practices and to recognize its ongoing efforts to base Its economy on freemarket principles. Indeed. President Bush recently announced his intention to extend permanent MFN to Hungary. This action is expected sometime this fall following certain actions by the Hungarian Parliament to bring the law into conformance with their current liberal emigration practices. Since no legislation is necessary to implement permanent MFN tariff treatment. I hope this bill will be seen as an endorsement of the Presidents initiative.
