Session #101 · 1989–91

Speech #1010066681

Last week. in a statement before the Senate Judiciary Committee. U.S. attorney Pete Dunbar documented the dramatic increase in drugrelated crime in Montana and asked the Federal Government for more resources. Although the President has made an effort to look at the problems we face in rural areas by increasing funding for the BLM. the BIA and the Park Service. he has also overlooked an important need we have: funding for international border control. The President wants to keep funding for the Customs Service at approximately the current level. while increasing the share of this money which will go to the Southwest land border. This means there will be less money available for other parts of the United States border including the 500mile section we share with Canada.
