Speaker. is the candy stick. which is placed around in Afghanistan by the Soviets and. needless to say. you can guess what happens with a candy stick bomb with an explosive in it when a child takes a bite out of It. So It is very tragic. the situation there. One of the things that concerns a great many of us Is that there are still some 30 million of these landmines on the ground in Afghanistan. One of the greatest problems that we face Is dealing with these landmines and trying to clear them so that refugees will have the ability to move back Into Afghanistan. Mr. Speaker. that historically tells us a little bit about what has taken place in this decade.
