After 2 years. she transferred to Notre Dame. where she completed grammar school and graduated from high school. Lucilla went on to become an accountant before meeting and marrying W. Kenneth Bertken. a young engineer from Mariposa. CA. whose grandfather had immigrated from Germany to the mother lode country during the early 1850s. Lucillas father. a proud son of Ireland. was born in Duash. County Kerry. and immigrated to San Francisco as a young man. Following the loving example of her parents. Lucilla has championed unselfish causes and civic progress most of her life.
