H.R. 1630 would help to streamline the naturalization process by permitting U.S. citizenship applicants to either wait for a future court date or be sworn in at the Immigration and Naturalization Service. This option would eliminate a long delay for a great many new citizens. Certain cities. like Houston. New York. Hartford. and Los Angeles. are experiencing long delays in court processing times. In Houston. for example. an applicant may wait up to 18 months to be sworn in as a U.S. citizen. Administrative naturalization has drawn support from many regions of our Nation and ethnic populations. Hispanics. Koreans. and other ethnic groups with foreignborn members have written Congress in support of this legislation.
