Bulgarias recent treatment of its ethnic Turkish population has been particularly abhorrent. It has been cruel and senseless. It seems the Bulgarian Government is intent on renewing the ethnic warfare that occurred in past centuries. As has been made clear. hundreds of thousands of ethnic Turks have been deported with little or no notice. Forced. involuntary deportations have emptied entire villages. often with only a few hours notice. But the abuses are not limited to deportations. Recently the Bulgarian Army set fire to the mosque in the village of Manolic. When the villagers tried to put the fire out. the Army shot into the crowd. killing several and wounding many.
