Speaker. I. too. want to recognize the 15th anniversary of the illegal occupation of the island Republic of Cyprus by the Turkish Army. After 15 years the Turkish Army still occupies 40 percent of the island. forcing hundreds of thousands of Cypriots to live as refugees in their own land. This occupation. declared illegal by both the United States and the United Nations. is being continued in part with American tax dollars. $500 million of which go to Turkey every year. much of it in the form of military aid. I renew my request to all my colleagues to join me in cosponsoring H.R. 1045. the BentleyBilirakisFeighan bill. to halt aid to Turkey until that country takes steps to end the illegal occupation of Cyprus.
