Lurie. as a Junior scientist at the Moscow Institute of Organic Chemistry. was exposed to state secrets over 25 years ago. Time and time again the Luries have been denied the opportunity to simply be reunited with their family. In the meantime Emanuel and Judith work within the Soviet Union to help support others attempting to emigrate. Mr. President. this week Washington has witnessed the arrival of Judith Lurie in the United States. Mrs. Lurie traveling on a temporary tourist visa must return shortly to the Soviet Union to be with her husband and daughterto wait. It is time that the Soviet Union recognize that the road to democratic reform requires actions that match words. The impressive steps taken to broaden the political process in the Soviet Union are laudable and it is my hope that these changes will lead to the eventual freedom of the Luries. and all who wish to emigrate.e
