Session #100 · 1987–89

Speech #1000088724

At the end of World War II. the Nazis were eliminated from Poland. but unfortunately. the Communist regime then occupied the country and began a systematic campaign to destroy the culture. religion. and national identity of the Polish people. Nevertheless. the Polish peoples commitment to freedom has remained undiminished. and their struggle to achieve personal liberty and national integrity continues. Those Poles who have emigrated to the United States have brought with them the same love of liberty which they cherished in their beloved native land. and they have contributed mightily to the social. economic. political. and cultural advancement of our Nation. While Polish immigrants have helped to make the United States one of the greatest countries in the world. their brothers and sisters still in Poland look to a strong America for moral support in their continuing struggle to achieve their just aspirations of national liberty. Mr. Speaker. as we again observe this anniversary of the invasion of Poland.
