Session #100 · 1987–89

Speech #1000087033

Ottoman. and Middle Eastern studies. have publicly denounced the misrepresentations and misleading intent of this resolution (H.J. Res. 132). There are three major points as to why the U.S. Congress should not even consider this issue. let alone approve a resolution to commemorate its existence. The first point. which I have already raised. is the historical justification of the Armenian genocide which is undocumented and unfounded. The Ottoman Empire was experiencing a civil war between 1915 and 1923. and many important questions still remain unanswered. including the affect of disease. famine. and the First World War. Second. this resolution would add fuel to the fire for Armenian terrorists avenging the socalled genocide of their ancestors.
