It is an illness. a serious sickness * * * we suffer from phobias and paranoias and it destroys our minds. This attempt to destroy the human spirit has perhaps reached the ultimate in cynicism in the case of Ilya Vaitsblit. Mr. Vaitsblit retired from his job as a radio engineer in 1973 because of declining health due to multiple sclerosis. He and his family applied for an exit visa but were refused because of his access to "classified" material. This is now 1987 and Mr. Vaitsblits disease has rendered him deaf. dumb. blind and completely paralyzed and yet he cannot leave because he is considered a security risk.
