Session #100 · 1987–89

Speech #1000082623

Mr. President. I had intended to offer the text of S. 1075 as an amendment to the Justice Department authorization bill which deals with the entry of Cuban political prisoners and Cuban immigrants to the United States. However. the chairman and ranking minority member of the committee and the Subcommittee on Immigration have asked me to postpone offering this amendment in return for their assurances that they will act speedily on this bill in committee. They have expressed the desire to work with me on this issue. and have given me a commitment that this bill will be considered by the subcommittee and the full committee as soon as possible. A hearing on this legislation was held June 30. at which I testified.
