I have great faith in General Vesseys negotiating abilities. If anyone can move the Vietnamese off the dime on the prisoner of war issue. I believe it is General Vessey. In addition. I hope that he will be able to move the Vietnamese forward on a number of other humanitarian issues which continue to divide our nations: resumption of the interviewing processes under the U.N. High Commissioner on Refugees Orderly Departure Program. the resettlement of Amerasian children. the release of political prisoners from Vietnamese reeducation camps. and the repatriation of American remains. Along with my colleagues. I wish General Vessey every success.
