Session #100 · 1987–89

Speech #1000078376

But I think it is unfortunate that Members of Congress have to resort to the Federal courts just to make sure that the Reagan administration is complying with the law of the land as far as the veterans of this country are concerned. On another issue. I think it might surprise a lot of people listening. including our colleagues. to know that the veterans of this country do not have the right of judiciary review. the right to take adverse claims from the Veterans Administration administrative process to the Federal courts the way any other group of Federal claimants. including Social Security recipients and including undocumented workers. may proceed. Even Federal prisoners have a right to take those kinds of claims from the administrative process to the Federal courts. That constitutional right here at the 200th anniversary of our Constitution is still denied to the veterans of our country who have fought for and defended our Constitution.
