I think that this is the end of MFN. I say to the Senator that with respect to doomsday. for a lot of human beings it will be. because I know that Romania is a terrible place. But I also know that for 6 years. when I had the privilege of serving as the chairman of the Trade Subcommittee and the annual responsibility for conducting the MFN reviews. every year the Romanian Ambassador would come by my office and every year we would talk about human rights. and we would also talk about emigration. We would give the Ambassador lists of names. I know that for all of the problems of Romania. there are human beings now who do not any longer reside in Romania who but for JacksonVanik would still be in Romania.
