Mr. Chairman. I would simply respond to the previous speaker by saying that I think that is the purpose that the author of the amendment wishes to accomplish. to find out exactly who will be the refugees and where the impact of those refugees will find itself. I would say further that I appreciate the gentlemans lofty idealism and resentment of some ramifications of the amendment. but I would point out to the gentleman that he lives in Oregon. He is probably the least likely individual Congressman in this whole Chamber to be affected by the inflow of refugees when and if there is an inflow. when and if those 8 million to 10 million people start coming across the border. I happen to be from the city of New Orleans. I can tell the gentleman that the Congressmen from Texas. from Louisiana. from Florida. and from California are going to be the ones who are most impacted. and I doubt that they have any right or any inclination to exhibit such righteous indignation at a simple request for the President to appraise the type of impact that this country is going to suffer as a result of such a massive inflow of refugees.
