Session #100 · 1987–89

Speech #1000052434

I think. through many hours of hard work in the full Foreign Affairs Committee. we crafted a fine piece of legislative work here. Mr. Chairman. I rise not only to support the bill but to express some satisfaction that three amendments of mine are embodied in this piece of legislation. They were all accepted unanimously. One was a sense of the Congress on further enlightened increased emigration from the Soviet Union of those people who feel that they are oppressed. This is not only tens of thousands of Jewish citizens but Pentecostals and other people who feel their religious rights have not been allowed to be expressed in the Soviet Union. This went through unanimously. as I said.
