I appreciate the support of Chairman HOLLINGS in the committee. who opposed this amendment. The administration opposes this delay. citing the problems I mentioned before. There are some serious doubts among those who do back the amendmentI do not speak of Senate colleagueswho have never been of assistance with regard to the immigration bill in any way. and I understand that with some of the organizations in the United States. but most of the business groups have been very supportive and very helpful. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce. the National Restaurant Association. the major hotel chains. the National Association of Manufacturers. the American Retail Federation. the American Federation of Independent Businesses. the American Farm Bureau. the National Small Business Federation. and many other business groups had an opportunity to commentand didon all these employer conditions.
