Session #100 · 1987–89

Speech #1000034954

Until that day comes. however. we must continue to work on behalf of the hundreds of thousands of individuals in the Soviet Union who are denied their basic rights. The Soviets treatment of Naum Meiman exemplifies the harassment and discrimination accorded Soviet Jews. Naum is a political activist and longtime refusenik who has been seeking permission to emigrate to the West for over 10 years. He is presently adjusting to the recent loss of his wife Inna. Naum. in his seventies. desperately wishes to live what is left of his life in the West. I urge the Soviet Government to grant Naum this wish and allow him to emigrate.*
